Our Response to Illness

Updated 2026

Hello,

We hope that everyone is staying healthy and doing well.

Speech-Language Pathologists often work with many children throughout the day and are frequently in close quarters with clients. You may notice that staff use masks in our office during peak times of COVID/Flu spread.

We offer both virtual and in-person appointments for speech and language therapy. When your children are not feeling well and you're unsure if you should attend the session, please refer to our ILLNESS POLICY. We would be happy to pivot to virtual sessions when possible, especially for our literacy and speech groups. We are very proud of our virtual platform - we promise your children will LOVE it!

Thanks for helping us keep everyone here healthy!

Warmly,

Your SYM staff

Winter Weather Policy

Updated January 2026

At Speak Your Mind we are so pleased to offer support to children who live in  different regions. We provide service from Oxford County to Toronto! With that  span of service, we offer services to children in different school boards. At Speak Your Mind our Winter Weather Policy is NOT dependent on school closures.  School closures do not always reflect driving conditions and the tempo of the therapy world.  School closures do not indicate that we will close.

I see that there is some Wintry weather forecasted.  I’m not always comfortable driving.  What can I do?

  • You are welcome to move your child’s appt to a virtual appointment OR reschedule within the week (depending on clinician’s availability).
  • You are welcome to cancel your appt with 24 hours notice. Pls remember if you cancel 50% of sessions in one month we may suggest therapy rest.
  • If our Facebook or Voicemail has not been updated to say we are closed, then we are open!!
  • Very rarely do we close in anticipation of snowfall or snow squalls.  It might snow in Cambridge but not Waterloo.
  • If you are worried about driving, please cancel the day prior.  24 hours notice is required.

I see there is a STORM WARNING  overnight.  Will you be open the next morning?

  • Like schools, we will decide if we are open by 6:30am.  If the percent chance is really high, we may make a call the night before.
  • Pls check your email, Facebook or our voicemail.

If we are open and you cannot make your session:

  • we ask that you then move your session to a virtual session or reschedule for the week to avoid charges.
  • We will consider same day cancellations on a case by case basis for our 8am and 9am appts.  For appts 10am onwards, should the roads be clear, like the stores, we will be open for business!
  • If you do need to fully cancel after a significant snow event, you need to advise us by 8am on the weather day to avoid a 60% cancellation fee.  Cancellations after 8am will be subject to a 60% fee.

There was unexpected snow overnight.  What do we do?

  • We are a small business that takes great care in being there for our clients.  Like all others who need to be at work on time, we do too.
  • If you are an 8am or 9am client, please let us know right away if you are going to have trouble making your appointment on time.
  • We can move any appt to a virtual appt.
  • We will consider rescheduling on a case by case basis for our 8am and 9am appts.  For appts 10am onwards we look forward to seeing you at your scheduled time!

We ask that you carefully plan your time and give yourself extra time for travel in the Winter.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Stay warm and drive safe this wintry season!

Warmly,

Your SYM Staff
